review 1: I haven't read any of the other books in this series and perhaps I should have. I don't believe the story depended on it but my tolerance of some the secondary characters may have improved.Our hero (Michael) and our heroine (Grace) would have had a quicker and less eventful trip to their HEA if not for interfering and overbearing friends and a lack of honest communication. If at the outset (if the friends hadn't arrived) they'd had a long conversation, the likely could have resolved almost all the issues. But instead our friends turn up and we're subjected to a long drawn out romance where everyone's good intentions inhibit the HEA.I finished the book but by the end of it I was just a bit sick of everyone in it. There were just too many obstacles, too much "for their o... morewn good". The secondary character of the Duke of Helston (I think) who I gather features in the first book of the series was just a bit over the top for my taste. Someone who has had a naval command has surely learned restraint but this Duke goes off at any little thing at every opportunity.I have no desire to read any of the other books within this series.
review 2: Julia Nash is one of my inbetween writers. She's not as prone to silliness and absurdities as Julia Quinn (which is why I read Julia Quinn) but she's not a staid little straight romance writer, either. She's got a bit of wit to her voice, the occasional sharp edge which keeps me coming back. I enjoy her books, I know I'll like them, but I sure as heck don't remember them once I've passed them on to a friend. It's no less true with this novel. less
