review 1: I thoroughly enjoyed this book from Sophie Barnes, the first full length novel I've read of the author's.The writing style was fab, it was romantic and funny, with vivid description. I liked that the hero and heroine didn't immediately fall in love and that it took time for them both to realise how they felt about the other. The biggest con for me was Emily. Sometimes I loved her, and I loved seeing how she changed through the book. But sometimes I just wanted to shake the girl!! Potential *SPOILER* ahead; when she thinks that Francis has a mistress she totally over reacts and acts like a complete idiot running off to marry her horrible 'cousin'. She's also kind of horrible about him at the start of the book, but at least she changes in that regard.Overall, this is a great ... moreread that's difficult to put down. And even if you find Emily irritating occassionally like I did, it does pass and she's likeable for the majority of the book- I don't want to put anyone off! Definitely worth a read.
review 2: Emily is heartbroken when the man she expects to marry announces his engagement to her best friend. It is stuffy Francis who takes her and her sisters to London for a change of scenery. As Emily rekindles her friendship with Francis they fall in lvoe. His deep, dark secret accounts for his brooding, but eventually he tells Emily. Together they search for the answers and everyone, including the sisters get a HEA. less
