review 1: another cute romance... at first I thought it was regency... but its actually probably early Victorian due to some mention of a war between Britain and China... its not something I would typically enjoy. I usually like the ones where the woman is the duchess or lady or whatever and the guy is the servant... but this was ok. he never really forced her to work for him, if he had forced her to be his maid it would have bothered me... but she more or less had the choice to stay or leave. also the leading lady actually punches the main man a couple times (while shes dressed as a woman) which I thought was pretty cool... she is certainly not a simpering female. so people on the lookout for fainting couches BEWARE! for here be an anachronistic lack of smelling salts!she also cros... mores dresses for about the first have of the book, which is something ive NEVER seen in a historical romance... so yeah... it was pretty enjoyable.
review 2: I would have given this 4 stars if I weren't so turned off by the Duke, understand he's a rake but felt like that was pushed in our face and in the poor heroine's face a little too hard. So much in fact, one should question why she would allow such a man whore to touch her after seeing him touch others. I found myself skipping through some of the scenes with him and his ladyfriends. Ick!!! ((((shudder)))) The only thing he has going for him is that he recognizes the real thing even through his lusty haze. Other than that, I loved the heroine. She is strong and likable and determined to better her life on her own terms, and unfortunately the only way she can do that is to dress as a footman. less
