review 1: Review of White Knight, by Staci Stallings.If I am asked to give themes for this play: It would be of Moving on after a loss and overcoming unseen barriers mount up by FEARS! And secondly, would be Never Judge a fellow by his outlook.At the beginning, we are introduced to Eve who was still grieving over the loss of her firefighter husband, Dustin, who died from injuries sustained while fighting a fire and feeling as if everything good in her life was lost. This story unwinds with her struggle to find a reason to go forward when it is as if all about her life was a dream. And though she was indeed lonely, yet in the midst of her friends pretend as if she is in control not wanting intrusions into her life, yet the author shows the part played by a group of true loving fri... moreends interested in making her come out of her grief and move on.The story continues as AJ Knight was brought more into focus. Here we meet a young man laden with guilt though puts up a strong bold face, quietly suffering and wishing to right what he thinks is a wrong he had committed. Probably as his name KNIGHT, he had focus on the fact of ‘supposedly to be one of RESCUE’, and this he tries to do at any given opportunity that presents itself. Therefore when he could not prevent the death of Dustin, whom he cared for as he was the paramedic after he injured – he was heart-broken. And now having to watch Eve suffer the grief at close range could only tear him inwardly apart with a sense of failure. As a person, he truly has a carefree spirit that makes one wonder if he is matured until he speaks. But we find out that it is just the surface, as when look more closely inside you discover the insecurities, fears and even uncertainties about his future. So when he came to know Eve more intimately he knew that ‘she was too much for him’ and all of his inward looking created deep barriers and the author helps in breaking these barriers one after the other.Along the line, Eve learns with the help of AJ whom as she began relating closely with, that he is not just the young man whom she is older than but one who speaks with the wisdom older than his age or outlook. She listens when he speaks and saw wisdom in what he says. He was fun for her to be with and has a way of making her forget her grief. And it was not surprising when she fell in love with him though constantly fighting the sanity of it. Also she came to know that LIVING TAKES COURAGE! We also see that when she had to help Lisa through labor – she was so sure that she will pass out but in the face of it, she was strong though she was hearing the voice of AJ constantly at the back of her mind.As always with Staci’s book, her characters’ lives to take one on a ride of learning with them. When AJ told Eve “You made the decision, courage can’t be far away.” This is so true as it portrays in daily life that most problems with man is doing the first things, which is, MAKE FIRST THE DECISION’ and courage will come like the wind to carry you through it all.
review 2: “You always have a choice. Whether you make it or you let it make itself,” says A. J. Knight in Stacy Stalling’s White Knight. As an EMT he is often the white knight riding to the rescue, making life or death decisions for people in crisis. But choosing to fall in love comes under a completely different category. Meanwhile Eve Knox is slowly crawling out from the choice she made to hide when her life fell apart.While this is book 2 of a series it reads like number one—new characters taking center stage and old ones providing a solid background of genuine relationships. In fact, I didn’t even realize it was book two until I finished reading. The dialog has the pitch-perfect cadence of a movie set, providing all the enjoyment of meeting real characters and wanting to know them better. And the action speeds up from a rather slow start, gluing readers to the page when the protagonists take an ill-timed skiing trip.Not just a romance, this novel has great locations, pleasing characters whose hidden depths emerge in dialog and crisis, and some intriguing questions of how to move on after loss. There’s a gentle touch of faith as well, and an enjoyable hint of mystery lurking behind that White Knight’s smile. I think this is the first book I’ve read by this author, but I hope it won’t be the last.Disclosure: I was given a free ecopy of this novel an, having enjoyed reading it, I’m writing an honest review. less
