review 1: I started reading this book because I won it on an online giveaway, and it was signed by the author, and I wanted to pay it forward and give this book an awesome review. It had a good premise, a woman starts stealing from bandits to save her farm, falls in love with a Cowboy. I LOVE romance. I have read a few cowboy romance novels and was entertained. I thought that this might work out well for both me and the book. It hasn't. The problem - the religious overtones. I am not religious. This book is. Therefore, we do not coexist comfortably. I do not like being preached at, and for all intents and purposes this felt like that to me. Now if you are religious and want a boy saves girl and she finds her way to god comfy kind of romance where there is no sex, then by a... morell means, this book is for you. If you are like me however, and you want a badass heroin and an even more badass hero and some fucking in the hey stack, with zero guilt factor in your desire for these elements because you are not being preached at, then take one look at this book and turn the other way. The writing is solid vanilla, kind of plain but functional. The plot twists to where I got up to where kind of predictable. But sometimes that's what you are looking for in a book. There is no harm in liking what you like, and wanting a plain vanilla predictable book, just for the sake of being satisfied that you are right, and things are all good in the world. It's just that this book and I are of two different perspectives when it comes to romance. I like mine with sex and no god. And this one likes it with no sex and god. This is a DNF. I am however, donating my copy to my local library in hopes that it might find a good home.
review 2: Historical fiction has always been my favorite genre. And I especially love ones set in the Old American West. This YA novel is a very fun, clean read that I would happily recommend to my daughter, who will soon be a teenager. The themes of forgiveness, redemption, faith, family, and love run throughout the story, making it an uplifting read with great moral lessons. It is also exciting and fun to read, with a very nice romance. less
