review 1: The one thing that can absolutely kill a book for me is the characters and this book had some awful ones. Cal, the hero is a cop, and I know this because the author made sure to reference it as much as possible. Other than that he was like dishwater to me: dull and cloudy. I don't have a clear sense of any dimensions to him beyond being a cop with a traumatic past. He didn't seem remotely connected to either his last living sister or even Maggie. Incidently, I found both Maggie and Cal's sister to be irritating to the extreme. I got the rationale about why they did what they did, but to be headstrong and stubborn to the point of stupidity? Not a fan. It seemed like they only behaved the way they did to extend the story. The only reason I completed the book is because of th... moree whodunit, and even then there was no satisfaction in it.
review 2: First book in the Larkin sister trilogy, Maggie, Zoe and Sophie. A fun read and at times you have some hilarious scenes.This book about eldest sister Maggie. At the Alpine Sky Resort in Barringer's pass, Colorado, She decks reality TV star Rafe DeLuca of Trust found Brats when he tries to get her to make out with him. When his bodyguard pulls a gun, Cal Drummond manages to get her out of there but not before the paparazzi gets the whole scene. Cal is a cop on leave from Oklahoma PD, he believes Rafe murdered his half sister Julie and two other women who have gone missing from surrounding area. Maggie is a complication he could do without. When Maggie refuses to sign papers from Rafe's lawyer to make what happened disappear she puts herself in danger. Maggie is one of three daughters born into a unorthodox lifestyle of hippies. When she and her sister Zoe were younger they lived up to the reputation of being wild. There grandmother saved their younger sister Sophie from getting caught up in their lifestyle and since then she and Zoe have always tried to shelter her. That was all behind her until Rafe DeLuca entered her life.Cal gives in to his attraction to Maggie, and doing his best to keep her out of trouble and believe me that was hard at times. If he thought that was hard, enter his other half sister Amber. who is just few weeks away from being 17. She is just as fiery as Maggie.The mystery surrounding this book is series, but because its such a fun read you sometimes tend to over look that. Cal and Maggie's romance is steamy and full of passion and Cal can be a bit controlling at times and Maggie has such a fiery spirit that you just have to cheer her along. There is a twist to the end of the book that I didn't see coming. A very good ending. less
