The Peculiar
review 1: This was a surprise. I don't read a lot of children's fantasy, but the cover on this one intrigued me. The door between the faery world and our world opened up and it was devastating. Now faeries live side by side regular English people. Life is dangerous for those of mixed blood called "changelings" or "peculiars". This book took me on a dark and imaginative adventure surprising me continuously on the way. I highly recommend it!
review 2: I was a little slow to fall in love with this book, but it took me in after about four chapters, and then there was really no letting go. The mystery elements of the plot weave together very effectively at the end, though a reader may feel from time to time (in the early stages of the story) that it's taking awhile for
... more Batholomew and his counterpoint adult character Mr. Jellyby to really get into some interesting trouble. Fortunately, the interior worlds of these characters' minds are charming, sympathetic, and interesting, even when it isn't clear yet what about their circumstances should most be of interest to the reader. less

Pacing, setting, plot, characterization - all enjoyable and kept me reading.

It didn't finish as strong as I would have liked, but it was a fun read.

It was delightful, but the ending felt incredibly rushed.
Hey
Great writing but a bit too consistently dark for me.
