review 1: One more Cynster novel - I did like it but if this book is compared to other Cynster novels (unfairly maybe - and I have read all of them - what with series and Stephanie Laurens among my favorites) - of which there are many now - this one lacks the magic of the earlier ones. It is just a little too long and I did find myself skipping pages every once in a while. Ryder and Mary are both strong and likeable characters. There are some scenes in the book that I really enjoyed and overall, an OK book ...
review 2: The last of the unwed Cynster sister, Mary Cynster is on the hunt for her hero not realizing that he's standing right behind her. Ryder Cavanaugh, Marquess of Raventhrone needs a wife and knows that Mary, with her spunk and outgoing personality, is just ... morethe woman for him. The problem: to convince Mary that he's her hero. However, when he's knifed in an alleyway following a ball and stumbles into the path of Mary's carriage, things change in a hurry as Mary hurries to save his life. But the attacks follow them following their marriage. Who could be behind them and why?I have read 26 of Stephanie Laurens' novels including this one; some of them I couldn't put down and a very few of them, including this one, took me forever to read. In this case, I don't think it was the novel's fault entirely but what was going on around me. The knifing occurred at the beginning and then it seemed to drag until the attacks on Mary escalated. Maybe it was just me; as I've said, I've read so many books by this author. less
