review 1: I liked this one. I enjoy this era, but with those who are not necessarily of the aristocracy. The Black Cobra back drop story for this series is pretty good. Ms. Laurens spends enough time on the prelude to give adequate details to make the mystery/conflict one that will hold up to several books. I can certainly see an aristocrat taking advantage of the Indians in the "back woods" to gain his fortune.The only thing that I didn't like was that there was too much intimacy. Now, I don't generally say that very often, but did I really need to read about every, single encounter between the two of them? I mean every, single one: most quite detailed. A couple of them may have been necessary to advance the plot, but not all of them. It made some of the relationship seem too ... morebound with the physical relationship. I would have enjoyed more "talk" to show how Del and Deliah's relationship was growing, rather than just another roll in the hay.Otherwise, I would recommend this book to all who like Stephanie Laurens, the post-Napoleanic era in England, or romances with military heroes.
review 2: This was a good enough book to finish reading, but I never had any doubt of the outcome, not enough tension to make me worry about the characters. The prelude was far too long and was hardly engaging, and I especially object to the over 50 pages at the back of the book of promotion for the authors other books. If I liked this book enough to look for other work by the same author, I can find it by myself, thanks anyway, Avon. I only hope other books in this or related series are better than this one. less
