review 2: If you are looking for a book that tells you about all of the horrible things that are happening to Planet Earth because of us, you've found the right one. This is an informative novel by Stephen Emmott, who is the current hea
... mored of computational science at Microsoft Research. The difference between this book, and most other scientific sources written about the future of earth, is that Emmott focuses on how much human activity has affected this planet for the worse, and the whole book is written based on this idea. The factual evidence that Emmott provides throughout the book is extensive, and frankly, quite scary. He addresses issues of a growing population, and how we will not be able to sufficiently provide for everyone on this planet if we continue with our current lifestyle. He concludes the novel by stating that we simply cannot go on for much longer as a species with the way we are living, and even if we change our habits dramatically, as a whole, but that even this will not save us for to much longer. The novel has been criticized for sloppy and inaccurate research, and some consider it to not be very accurate, but I can say that even though I do not quite believe we are doomed as a species, I think that Emmott makes some very valid points about what humans are doing to the planet that we live on, such as extinction of many species of animals, heavy global warming, and use of much of the earth for food and material production, both of which have a very heavy impact on the ecosystems that they are placed in. I think that not all of the information in this book is very accurate, but it is still a wake up call, that humans are doing more than we think to our planet, and eventually our race. less

Bordering on the misanthropic. Not how I generally like my enviro-non-fiction.

I feel that this book is little more than a very sad waste of paper.

A necessary book. A shocking but sadly unsurprising ending.
