review 1: (spoiler alert) I'm read this book like crazy, packing it in my purse - it's got a couple of sentences to each page so it's not a long or difficult read - which I'm OK with as it makes you focus on the concept, fact, or number. So, I'm reading and reading and reading and he knocks down technology as a way out and behavior, and I'm waiting for food choice and eating less meat and dairy - changing our behavior - AND HE DOESN'T MAKE THE CONNECTION. And I'm reading, and even in the last 3 pages I'm hoping he'll make the connection. And then he says: We're fucked.
review 2: Earth does not have the resources to sustain the demands we, a population of 7 billion, are putting on it. What will happen as the population increases (as it has been drastically since the agri
... morecultural revolution) to 10 billion+?The book is information packed but very accessible- there are a lot of graphs, pictures, and data. A lot of sobering information about our water consumption, deforestation, and greenhouse gas emissions. The fact is that very little is being done about it. Very little can be done at this point. So contrary to most other environmental books I have read, this wasn't so much a call to arms, rather a call to consciousness. We are consuming too much and it needs to stop. Unless there is some sudden change in public awareness and practice- it won't. Really fun reading for your day off. less
