The Legend of the Firewalker
review 1: The book starts off with Leah, her nightmares and being thought crazy by half the school. Leah is put in an institution after her room is torn apart and she was found with what appeared to be self-inflicted wounds all over her, and fighting off invisible foes. After Leah, we are introduced to Nathan, who is the caretaker's grandson. He and his grandfather Roy live on the grounds of LaDonda’s estate. Nathan has been having nightmares about a girl being attacked. Whilst at LaFonda’s (LaDonda’s granddaughter) birthday party he finds out that LaFonda used to be in the same dorm as the girl he is possibly dreaming about. He wonders if it is possible to have nightmares about a girl you don’t know, and that she is friends with someone you do know? The setting, a college c... moreampus surrounded by a forest, cliffs and eerie caves was a perfect backdrop for all the paranormal and creepy happenings. I liked the Native American legends, they were great, but I didn’t think the author went into enough details about the Firewalkers, Dreamwalkers, etc . I was left with a lot of unanswered questions. Hopefully all will be answered in book 2. The plot was good, and it was original enough to keep me interested. I wanted to find out what was going on with all the characters. The book is in need of some editing. Things like: He let out a stifled yawn as he 'set' up in bed. Also I did get a little confused at times as to what was speech and what were thoughts. I do hope the editing issues get sorted soon as this could be a really exciting read for lovers of this genre.
review 2: Captivating, Intriguing and SuspensefulI received this book by the Author and the “Lovers of Paranormal” Group on Goodreads in exchange for an honest review. Thank you for this wonderful opportunity! The Legend of the Firewalker by Steve Bevil, is an extremely enthralling story that pulls you in from the very beginning! Leah is ending her freshman year in college, looking forward to a relaxing summer at home after a traumatic year. Nathan is a camp councilor with his best friend, Lafonda, at a summer leadership camp after their freshman year. At camp they meet several new friends to include the wickedly handsome Malick, easy going Jonas, and studious Jonathan. The six week camp reveals things to these friends they never thought possible. "The dark may have its minions Nathan, but the righteous have their heroes.""He told us he couldn't open the window for strangers, so he opened the front door instead.""Because your laugh is how I always imagined it would be."I extremely enjoyed this book. The way the author weaves together the Cahokia Indian folklore with the Bible and other known legends is fascinating. The characters are perfectly developed and likable. Nathan is a very compelling main character. I LOVED the ending! It is very satisfying and hooks you in to want more! Looking forward to the next book in the series! less
