review 1: DETECTIVE Little Boy Blue it is! This comic-like picture book is such a good example to read-aloud to a group of children. The different characters and various encounters of exciting clues will keep the children on their toes! The children may even picture themselves becoming a detective, as well. This could entertain younger children because before turning a page the teacher could ask the student's what they think will come next [involving the clues given]. The illustrations are so unique and quickly grab your attention! This is such a great book to read out loud to a class, because the reader can use various types of voices to keep the children interested!! Some of the dialogue is a little long, but not too long where the listeners would get bored. Lesson plans or games ... morewould make this book more fun, and the teacher could get very creative with the games!
review 2: Mommy's review from 1/3/12 - Julia wasn't as impressed with this as I expected. I didn't even take a good look at the cover when I took this from the library before Christmas. A few days after Christmas, when we finally went to read it, I realized the nursery rhyme link. I thought Julia would get a kick out of that but it was take-it-or-leave-it for her.I would have liked it myself if it had flowed better. It hardly flowed at all really. The first word that comes to mind when I think of this is 'jumpy'. It jumped from one rhyme to the next and that kind of takes the point away for me. less
