review 1: If you like Sylvia Cassidy's Behind the Attic Wall or Neil Gaiman's Coraline, you will love this book! Not only is it an adventure story that involves magical wildcats, forbidden books, and garbage collectors, it is a commentary on the destruction of nature, individuality, standardized testing, and the overabundance of and over-reliance on technology. The only reason I am not rating this book 5 stars is because I am still unsure of the origin and habits of the Wikkeling itself, but the rest of the story is enjoyable enough, despite the ambiguity. -Andrea
review 2: A really scary tale! The themes aren't terribly subtle, but it's a kid's book, so I guess it should be forgiven that. The ending also peters out somewhat compared to the buildup, with things unanswere
... mored or threads left loose. The use of different font styles for people, electronics, and the Wikkeling was wonderful; there was one page, the end of a chapter, that gave me the creeps reading it due directly to the font changes.Very enjoyable. less
