review 1: I tried to like this book, giving it far more of a chance than I normally would, but the dialogue and overly (and unnecessarily) used detail during large portions of the tale kept dragging me out of the story and into my own internal dialogue of how much I hated the Fletchers. The premise of the story was sound, and there was such opportunity to take this story to a great level, but it seems that energy was rather incorrectly directed at superfluous descriptors and internal dialogue making it feel more like a screenplay than a novel. As mentioned by some other reviews, the main family almost had you rooting for something terrible to befall them, as they were "those people" who in real life you would avoid because they are arrogant and annoying.

... moreas a pretty good read. It is about a deadly flu pandemic that wipes out 28 million Americans. The focus is on one loop of a neighborhood, in particular the Fletcher family, in Maine. You can see how people prepare for a deadly crisis differently. It could happen, so yes, it made me nervous at times. There really wasn't any slow parts, just towards the end it started to sound repetitive, but then boom, the actual ending was crazy good. less

I have to say it was just okay. Much of it seemed repetitive and the ending was a bit abrupt.

Interesing. Particularly as it it set just a few miles north of my summer home.
