The Perseid Collapse
review 1: I listened to this via audible, and I think part of the reason I did not really enjoy the book was because the narrator.I will say: the ending was EVIL! EVIL! lolThe Perseid Collapse follows the Fletcher Family from the Jakarta Pandemic, and even by the end of the book, you still have no clear idea as to what exactly happened that made the SHTF. But it did. In epic proportion. Yet again, Konkoly holds to true to his relatable, HUMAN characters. The main character, Alex, is a former Marine, and obviously much of that bleeds through in his life, but combined with the pandemic a few years earlier, he is determined to get through anything, and rescue one of his family members. He screws up. He gets it right. He can't keep his mouth shut when he should. He has a good support grou... morep around him, that bicker just like you know close friends would.Good read, overall, but absolutely HORRIBLE narrator!!
review 2: After reading the prequel to this book first, I expected more of the details of prepping (preparing for disaster) in this one than it had. It was a pleasant surprise, for me, that the author toned that way down, although there was still a lot of detail woven more organically into the story. This story begins with a hint that an enemy may somehow have learned of a coming natural disaster and hidden it from the US. Then we join the primary family from the prequel as they ride out the disaster away from home after dropping off their oldest son at college. The rest of the book focuses on how they make their way home, gather reinforcements of allies from the neighborhood, and set off to retrieve the son. I'm going to break with my rule not to give spoilers - not the details, though. One thing makes me do this; when there is a major cliffhanger with NO resolution to any of the conflicts in the book, I will let other readers know. I hate this practice! It isn't good. Finish the major story, then end the book. I knew this was a series, so I knew the possibility existed, but it annoyed me. Nevertheless, I shall get the next book and read it. One thing I particularly enjoyed about both of these books is the very real and sometimes humorous portrayal of the marriage in the main family, as well as the interplay between the three male friends. In spite of overwhelming disaster-induced tension, there were times when the dialog between the husband and wife was so real that I laughed out loud. They're deeply in love, but they get annoyed with each other, make snarky remarks, get genuinely mad and they let it all hang out. They also support each other unconditionally, snatch a moment for lovemaking, and defend each other from the snarky remarks of the friends. All in all, I enjoyed it. less

Great series. Highly recommended. This series is a must read for fans of post apocalypse type books.

way too much military jargon for me but otherwise a great story.
