review 1: A novel of an elder man, who loses his wife to Alzheimer's decides to put his family together again by helping them put themselves together. Also after many years of animosity with his only son, does he begin to also put the relationship that went bad back together by finally seeing not just what he did wrong, but to understand what his son had felt for all those years. When his family is all together, he moves on to his lovely wife. A very heartfelt book, with much healing of family relationships. Too bad, it took so long.
review 2: 'If family matters to you, it is a story you must read.' Family is the single most important thing in my life and this final sentence in the synopsis was what clinched this book as my next read. Growing up with 3 younger sisters ... morewasn't something I always appreciated but as I got older I realized how lucky I am and am truly grateful that my sisters are my best friends. Of course this novel gripped me from the beginning, and took me through the full spectrum of emotion. The style of writing was excellent and from the start I was very much a part of John McCarthy and his family. The author has a way of feeding you the sentiments of each character so well that you feel as though you are on the journey with each of them, living through their turmoil."When you shut your eyes tonight, I want you to picture that today was your last. If you're happy with what you see, then I wouldn't change a thing" Grandpa John, you're a smart man! :)Thank you Steven Manchester for this amazing read, I'm so glad I picked this book up (and couldn't put it down!) less
