review 1: Isaac's new novel concerns 79 year old Gloria Goldberg Garrison, founder and sole proprietor of "Glory", a cosmetics and makeover business that's made Gloria a very rich woman: a very rich, nasty, woman. Gloria decides to implement a succession plan and invites her three grandchildren - with whom she's had nothing to do with, naturally - to her palatial home. One of the three will be her sole heir to the fortune, the other two receive nothing. Unbelievably (to Gloria), all three reject the offer. She cannot conceive that these snotty brats would, indeed, could refuse her. Isaacs can write a zinger of a line and all the best ones belong to Gloria. If you're a fan of family reconciliation stories this one's for you. Me? I kind of missed the cantankerous Gl... moreoria.
review 2: What the hell happened to Susan Isaacs? Her books used to be well-plotted, easy to read, interesting page turners with witty, intelligent characters (especially the women.) This book was such a departure from all her previous work that I suspect Isaacs may have died and an anonymous hack hired to fulfill her contract. The character of Gloria was a gold star bitch, the grandchildren moronic saps, and the ending totally unbelievable. Plot, characters, story development, all wrong, Just nothing to like about this book. Such a shame when good authors go bad. less

Disappointing. Thin and predictable, clunky writing.

The premise was more intriguing than the execution.
