review 1: I read the audiobook version of this title. Having never tried Susan Mallery before, I didn't know anything about her Fool's Gold series, of which this is (I think) quite a ways along in the series. It has a lot of the elements I like--a strong heroine, a colorful supporting cast of characters--but When We Met just kind of left me cold. Part of this might have been the narrator--Tanya Eby tried to convey a convincing tone for Angel and the other men, but they kind of came out sounding somewhat...silly. Personally, I was annoyed by the focus on brand names and clothes--it seemed to work against Taryn's characterization. There wasn't as much tension between the two characters, although their back stories (more Angel's than Taryn's) made them more interesting than they f... moreirst appeared in the early parts of the book. Still, not really as good as what I was hoping for.
review 2: I haven't read a single Susan Mallery book that I haven't loved. There are some that I like better, of course, but they are all incredibly enjoyable. Taryn is a strong female character. She has a life that she loves, money in the bank, designer clothes in her closet. She thinks she has everything she needs. Then along came Angel. Former military, a scarred man emotionally and physically. He has a lot in his past that he's running from, as does Taryn. They end up working together, guiding little girls along to a healthier, more upbeat future. As it goes, they fall in love. I'm shortening the story, but I just don't want to give away any of it. You should read it. And love it. Just like I did. less
