review 1: I have enjoyed many of Susan Meissners books, as they are generally full of beautiful writing and simple truths. This book was written well and true to form had many "quoteable" passages, but I just couldn't find a connection with the main character, Clara. I found her to be frustratingly naive and often times selfish. Didn't love it. Liked it okay...well enough to give it three stars, just didn't love it.
review 2: Intertwined stories about heartbreak and rebirth weave through the early twentieth and twenty-first centuries. Clara, a nurse, is a survivor of the Manhattan Triangle Shirtwaist Factory fire of 1911. She is hiding from her pain by working and living on Ellis Island, a land of in-between. Taryn is a 9/11 widow, working in a fabric store in Manhattan,
... more avoiding telling her daughter, with whom she was pregnant, what she witnessed on that day. A vividly woven challis scarf connects the two women, tying their stories together.(Nancy E., North Branch) less

More like 2 1/2 for me. Liked the ideas in this novel, but the writing was quite ho-hum
