review 1: I really liked most of the book, especially because I could relate to Berta's background - I'm also a Russian Jew. It was very sad at times, her story, her family, a little heart-breaking. I felt that her husband left her for too long and afterwards, the reader didn't receive any closure or explanation to his whereabouts. I lacked some emotional depth and some dialogues.
