review 1: This is the first book by this author and I was not impressed. I didn't care much for any of the characters, except for the sick mother. She was an example of thoughtfulness and grace under pressure. the other characters were predictable and shallow. I knew how it would end by the end of the first chapter, but it was a book club book so I plowed through it, but I won't read the rest of the series.
review 2: I am very fond of this writer's work and was not disappointed when I finished Return to Willow Lake. The expolration of how people deal with cancer might even have gone further, but thank you Susan for including such a timely theme in your novel. So many people are touched by this disease that we need to face the emotions that having it or knowing someone
... morewho suffers through it involves.I liked all the characters but especially, Sonnet, her mother, Nina, and Jezebel. Each in her own way states her feelings in a way that is accessible to the reader and pinpoints the difficultis they are facing.Politicians are not painted in a very positive light, but how could they be in the 21st century? This was an engaging read! less

Great story, more about dealing with serious life issues than romance.
