review 1: Henrietta is a Regency Scarlet O'Hara, hopelessly lost in a crush with no grasp on reality, or the hunky earl next door.Lord Kesseley is a mountain of kindness, patience, consideration, with very mature feelings for the girl next door, Henrietta. And he's a hunk.I judge a romance novel by the hero (I know, right?!?!) and so this romance is five stars, because the Earl of Kesseley is perfect. He's considerate, protective, trustworthy, loves animals, he's smart, and gorgeous. I fell in love with Kesseley. Who wouldn't? The heroine! Silly girl, who I also loved, because it was so easy to relate to her. She has all the flaws any young lady can relate to, but with an otherwise good head on her shoulders.There's an interesting thread throughout ... Henrietta is addicted to gothi... morec romance novels that feature dark and tortured heroes. Can she ever love Kesseley if he's not dark and tortured? The real question is, can he love her if he is?This author wrote such rich characterizations that I was happily entrapped in the world of Henrietta and Kessely (Henriesseley), and so I cannot wait for Susanna Ives's mass market debut with WICKED LITTLE SECRETS, by Sourcebooks.
review 2: I enjoyed Rakes & Radishes, but there seemed to be a lot of conflict, maybe a little too much. First he loves her but she doesn't love him, then she loves him, but he doesn't want her anymore, etc. I think the end should have been a little sooner, I didn't really need the sex scene at the end, it was a little too much as well. All in all, a nice historical romance that with a little work might have been better. less
