review 1: Themes of belonging, relationships , and honesty.genre: middle school fiction, young adults+ will enjoy this readAmbrose is trying to fit into his life; trying to choose the right path. He makes some unusual friends along the way using his gift of words. Readers will notice Susin Nielsen's characters are linked across her books. It is set in Canada! 2 thumbs up!I recommend "Word Nerd" to all self-proclaimed nerds. There is a place for us in this world!
review 2: Ambrose is a complete and total nerd. He lives with his overprotective mother, has no friends, and gets beat up at school. After he nearly dies from a peanut is slipped in his sandwich, his mother enrolls him in correspondence school. Now he sees no one but his mother, and is left alone at night whil... moree she works - not a good plan really. Things pick up for him when he meets the landlords' ex-con son and they begin a symbiotic relationship, involving Scrabble, girls, and self-defense. less
