review 1: While reading this story, I made a text-to-text connection with, "The Hour I First Believed". One of the aspects of that story is very similar to a part in this one. I would implement this book into my future classroom as apart of my student's independent reading time. I would encourage my students to see the importance and impact bullying has and invite them to deepen the meaning of the tragedies the protagonist presents. Although I will admit it is a bit dark in some parts, this story has a symbolic meaning that will be similar and different for anyone who reads it.
review 2: The most honest portrayal of grief I have ever read. Henry struggles with the way his life has changed after losing his brother. As the circumstances of his brother's death were revealed
... more, I found myself cheering for Henry. As a person who lost a sibling, this book was cathartic. I wanted to jump through the pages and tell Henry that someday he'd be okay again. It takes a tremendous writer to make a reader want to address and console a fictional character, but Nielsen has created a teenage boy who is so authentic and human that his story easily became my story. less

Tough, heart-wrenching book to read (mixed with some much-appreciated humor), but well worth it.

Really heavy subject matter dealt with without heavy handedness and with some humor
