review 1: 2.5Lady Charlotte, inserting herself into other peoples business on the regular, scolds and berates Ranulf on many, many occasions during the first 50% of this book. Ranulf then proves to be singularly unique in the fact that he likes that in a woman and falls nearly instantly in love with her. I honestly barely finished this book. I took a couple months hiatus about 30% in, but then wanted to get it off my kindle carousel as 'read'. I powered onward and it did improve around the 60% mark, Charlotte sorta settles down and Ranulf genuinely struggles with how to act 'civilized' in London society - the cultural difference painted was interesting and a new rub for me in HR. The instant attraction really didn't work for me, and I felt the ending was pretty abrupt, but the turna... moreround by Charlotte and a couple of simple love scenes allowed me that extra half star. I know, I know, don't be too generous you say - but that's my honest best. I will continue on with the series though, Rowena's story looks to be very promising.
review 2: I liked the hero of this novel, but I found the heroine to be pretty insufferably closed minded for a lot of the book. And the Scottish accent was killing me. I love listening to Scottish accents, but I don't have the exposure necessary to read it and hear that accent in my head when reading ye or dinnae or nae and etc. Despite these complaints, I enjoyed the story. It was rough in parts, but I think the next books in the series will improve. And hopefully this accent issue will fade away. less

3.5/5 stars. Abrupt ending, and a little surprised at some of the character's behavior.

Entertaining enough that I finished it, but I wanted deeper characterization..

Well I'm glad Charlotte and Rowena came to their senses and grew up...
