review 1: I have read a very large percentage of Suzanne Enoch's books, and this one still stays at the top of my favorites list even though I love all of her books. Why? I think it's Bram. Who wouldn't love the dark knight trying to save the capable, but over her head damsel. Like all of Suzanne's books, she has a heroine that I actually like and admire. Many romance novels have whiny, clingy, manipulating or just plain unlikable lead women. As many stars as I can give this one!
review 2: My first Suzanne Enoch novel and I have to say she knows how to grasp a reader's attention. From the very beginning I was intrigued. The plot, the characters where all a bit familiar. After reading quiet a few romance novels I feel all of them are more or less similar. But despite that
... moreI liked this novel very simply because of the author's style of writing. It was witty and humorous. She was not deliberately trying to create a funny mood, rather I felt the edgy humor was part of the character. The book had me laughing all throughout. Very good writing style. I have to commend her.Bram was interesting although at times I felt that he was just too childish. His fight with his father was completely baseless. At 16, I get that fact that he was angry, but close to 30, its plain foolishness. But other than that I liked him. I loved the friendship between the three notorious gentlemen and the ending had just a little touch of humor. Perfect. I didn't really like Rose. She was very simple. By simple, I don't mean descriptions of her looks but rather uninteresting. Ok she reads about American History, but that doesn't really show much about her. I have read about simple women who went out and took charge of their life. Rose was just too complacent, relying on Bram to educate her??? It didn't work for me. I simply detested her parents. I mean how could they be so heartless? I sympathized with Rose, but that's it.Cosgrove seemed a deadly foe. He actually did scare me a little and I was expecting something bigger at the end. But his evilness didn't live up to my expectations. It was not a remarkable novel, but it had its finer aspects that I liked. But more than that I like this author. So I am sure I'll read more of her writings. less
