review 1: Wow! This book was rich in characters that were so real they captured my heart and a place so mystical and unique I want to visit it! I enjoyed the chapters being told by a few of the main characters (one a ghost) - the author did a fabulous job capturing their unique voices. The story had a very dark, disturbing ending in some respects, but the last line says it all "And damn, if redemption ain't my new favorite word." This book will stay with me longer than most and I recommend it!
review 2: Different. Seems a mix of occult, magic, murder, and I'm not sure it's always a good mix. The chapters alternate being narrated by 3 different women, make that 2 women and one girlchild who is much too old for her age. The mystery is who really killed one woman's b
... moreest friend (whom she has not seen in 13 years) and was also the mother of the girl's best friend (who has since gone missing). Add to that a drunken father, and a few other odd 'relatives', and what do you have? A young woman who returns home after 13 years to save her brother, and who re-discovers her mother. A homecoming novel, I guess, with all the other oddness built right in. less

Meh. Don't bother. Nice voices on audio, and starts out strong, but peters into predictable boring.
