review 1: I wish I could give this book 3.5 stars because I more than liked it, but I don't know if I could say I REALLY liked it. The weak spot of this novel is the story outside of the "Austen" manuscript - it was forced and frivolous and the writing just wasn't that great. But "The Stanhorpes" was fun and I really enjoyed it. Was it the same caliber as Jane Austen? No, of course not, but it was a fun read and I could imagine it as a younger, less experienced Jane Austen work. I did not feel as though there was enough of a connection between the characters and that it was a bit rushed. Then again, when it comes to a book-within-a-book set up I almost always find myself much preferring the inner story, so perhaps that's just my perception of it. less
