review 1: Wow! So happy I continued on reading French's Broken Harbor. I didn't LOVE Faithful Place like I loved The Likeness. I was actually slightly disappointed and thought I might just end after her third. Having just closed the book on Broken Harbor, I can easily say it was my favorite of the four so far. The psychological piece was well balanced and not too over the top. The mystery storyline was well crafted and every detail thought out. The characters' choices are true to the person she created and never do they sell out or make decisions just to benefit the plot. I highly suggest Broken Harbor. I actually read it on my kindle but still will purchase the hardcopy for my shelf.
review 2: At first I didn't think I would like this one. The crime is grisly--a whole
... morefamily murdered--and the lead detective didn't seem that compelling. But I found myself pulled in by the case--the evidence of the crime is contradictory, and more than one scenario is possible. Gradually a vivid portrait of the family emerges, and the society that they live in. And, as the murder investigation heats up, so does the private live of the detective. I was compelled to stay up too late finishing this, something I seldom do, because I had to know how it turned out. less
