review 1: In terms of sheer suspense, character development, and psychological drama, this is my favorite Tana French book so far. It required a lot of self-control not to look ahead to see how it would end! As usual, the main characters did have a tendency toward self-destruction, which was predictable even if the manner of said self-destruction was not. I did notice that while reading this book it was harder for me to "hear" the speech patterns and rhythms of Ireland, which was an aspect of Faithful Place that I really enjoyed. However, overall this is my favorite of her first 4 books in the series!
review 2: My favourite Dublin Murder Squad book so far. The case is superficially simple: a family of four found murdered inside their home. However, it transpires that
... more a very special kind of madness was crawling inside their walls. The detective in charge of the investigation is the most troubled Murder Squad member so far. Part way through you realize he's a not-so reliable narrator and he spirals into denial from there. I read this over two nights. Best Christmas treat ever. less

So disturbing on so many levels, but I couldn't put it down.
