review 2: Adam who is orphaned but living with his Dutch foster
... morefather. Adam's father, Karl has been taken away by Indonesian army and Adam travels all the way to Jakarta to look for his father. He is misled by fellow Indonesian, who believed strongly in bringing down of president, Sukarno, for their political cause.Adam goes through rough times but he is able to get united with his father, Karl with his good friends/allies.As I was reading the book, I was keep on thinking why the author, Tash Aw, has named his book, Map of the Invisible World. I have concluded that maybe he named such because it is about family roots of every character in this book. Karl is Dutch by the blood but he was born in Indonesia and he firmly believes that he is Indonesian through and through. I think family roots is a map of individual person which we cannot see it with our naked eyes. It is deeply rooted in our personality which can be felt but cannot be seen. Therefore, I think this might be the reason why Tash Aw has named his book/fiction in such a way. less

Enjoyed the historical background. Found the plot rather contrived and not always convincing.

A nice look to post-Holland Indonesia. The end is a bit disappointing.
