review 1: I'm not a romance fan, ordinarily. I was drawn to this book because of it's time period and location: late 19th century in San Francisco. Main character Gabriel has it all, he is handsome, a gambler, a supreme fighter, and a lover extraordinaire. He has a gang of Angels who provide security when needed to wealthy landowners. He is called to protect the daughter and son of a Chinese American man, who has received anonymous threats. Ana his daughter is as beautiful as Gabe is handsome -- and in true Romance style she finds him repulsive, but intriguing. At the opening of the book she witnesses him having sex with the maid in the barn -- I know, really! She is disgusted, but can't take her eyes off the scene. I'm a lot like her, I keep going "eeww" but I just keep on reading ... moreuntil the end.
review 2: Thoroughly enjoyable! The characters realistic and believable. The story is easy to follow and doesn't jump around like many others do. Could have done with better proof reading as there are a few grammer and spelling mistakes but they don't detract from the story (I have seen worse and more in books I have paid a fortune for). Well done Taylor! I am looking forward to reading the rest of the series. less
