LONG EXPOSURES IN CENTRAL LONDON.

January 15, 2018

It may sound weird, but for a long time, I shied away from dabbling with both night and long exposure photography, until last Saturday.

Despite the fact that I couldn’t feel any part of my body after a few hours of going outside in the cold, I really really enjoyed my time. We spent a good few hours walking around between Oxford Street (where I paid a visit to Zara and got a beautiful jumpsuit. LOVE THE SALE SEASON), Waterloo, Westminster, and of course, near the London Bridge. I wanted to go to more places, but we just ran out of time, so I definitely am excited about planning my next photography trip, hopefully soon.

Our first stop was Victoria station, I recall. We got out of the underground station and were going to take a bus or something, but I decided that I wanted to take a few long exposure pictures of the cars and streets before moving on, so Ahmed helped me set up the tripod and mount the camera. The nice thing with long exposure pictures is that no matter how many people are crossing the road or walking into the picture frame, if they keep on moving, the camera won’t register them, which is awesome.

Next stop was Westminster

We didn’t really linger around that part of Westminster much because Big Ben is still undergoing some work, so it’s blocked by the construction metal bridge thingys. I was hoping for The London Eye to be actually moving so I could catch a long exposure image of it, but I still took a long exposure image to blur out the water.

Annnd for the final stop, we got off at the London Bridge Station, I wanted to get nearer to the bridge, but at this point I was literally freezing and had forgotten my spare camera battery at home, so I took some pictures in this area before heading back home.

Near London Bridge

This sculpture intrigued me. It’s also near London Bridge, and I love the fountains behind it. It’s like a water dance. And I noticed some kind of game that people who go there tend to frequently play, which is running through the fountains right before they go off.

Before heading to Westminster, we stopped for food in Oxford Circus, and it’s worth mentioning because we tried out this italian restaurant called Ponti’s Italian Kitchen for the first time, and the food was really delicious, plus the atmosphere had this rustic/romantic vibe to it, and I absolutely love that.

Their desserts are just as delicious as their main courses. I absolutely loved the panna cotta and their chocolate cheesecake is absolutely dreamy!

And last but not least, the picture that I’m so excited to have Ahmed actually set it as his profile picture on Instagram of Facebook is this:

The Portrait of a man’s existence

I really can’t wait to go on more photography trips!

P.S. Most of the images were taken using Manual Mode with the following settings: F/22 and time set between 10 and 30 seconds with a variable ISO, between 200 and 600.
