review 1: I didn't agree with the lower ratings given to this book by some readers. I found it fascinating! Some took exception to the "footnotes" provided by the narrator; I found them an intriguing way to inject historical accuracy to the novel. Based on the romantic escapades of Frank Lloyd Wright, as told by a (fictional) young Japanese disciple, the book tackles each important woman in his life in a separate section, starting with his last wife and working backward. The book made me eager to visit Taliesin, the home he built in Wisconsin, now a museum to his work and his life. It also made me want to learn even more about the man who not only had a great effect on American architecture but also on the lives of these beautiful women. I highly recommend this ... morebook.
review 2: Having previously read "Tortilla Curtain" and "Drop City" by TC Boyle, and having seen the film "Road to Wellville" based on his book about Kellogg - and being a fan of Frank Lloyd Wright's work especially his Mayan/Los Angeles houses - I was so interested in reading about FLW's life and relationships. However I just can't slog myself through another page. There are better books I can move on to. It's a shame that such an interesting, important figure in history is reduced within this book, lessened by the narration of an uninvolved third party. This is basically Baby Mama Drama with a whole lot of ten-cent words. Not worth the two weeks I spent trying to tackle it. less
