review 1: I thought this book started out great! I love how Tessa Dare starts her books with a bang, jumps right into the action on the first page. The storyline of falling in love with the best friends sister is one of my favorites. But... after about half-way thru the book, the characters unfortunately became irritating. Especially the heroine! I was embarrassed for her with every page I read, at how immature, petulant, just a little brat basically. There became too many misunderstandings that were frustrating as well. It all got so irritating that I chose to not even finish the last three chapters, because I just did not care about the characters anymore at that point. Still love this author though, and plan on reading her other books!

... more so impressed that this was Tessa Dare's debut novel! I really had such a nice time reading this and it’s definitely one of Tessa Dare’s winners! The H/h are opposites and they are one of those couples whose courtship was fun to watch because it caught both of them by surprise. To the four childhood friends – Jeremy, Henry (Lucy’s brother and guardian), Toby, and Felix – Lucy was the little tomboy sister that followed them around on autumn visit at Waltham Manor for hunting and fishing trips. They all watched over her and Toby has always paid special attention to her so it’s no wonder that she developed an attachment. However, now Lucy is 19 but to the guys she’s still a girl – until Jeremy starts to see her as a woman. The 10 year age gap is not my favorite because I see the gap with modern day eyes though at the time I guess it was normal. When it came to the couple, I liked everything about them. As a whole, I liked how we see how the men see Lucy and when they accepted her as an adult, instead of the girl they knew. I especially liked how Jeremy’s view of Lucy changed from little girl, to a woman, to a wife he doesn’t want to live without. I also like how Lucy was discovering Jeremy too. Although in the beginning I expected Jeremy to have a serious side, I didn’t expect the sadness and loneliness of his childhood and family life. As you can imagine, everything works out in the end – not without some misunderstandings, passionate secret encounters, some humor, and heartfelt declarations – all in a day’s work for a Tessa Dare novel. I can’t say that this book is the type of greatness that resembles fireworks…but it is the kind of greatness that a perfect day brings – smiles and gratitude for a book well done! less
