review 1: The negative reviews are peeving me so badly so I need to write this in hopes that future readers aren't scared off because some people don't understand the topic of the book they picked up.First off, if you picked up a book called BLOOD MAGIC and were expecting Rainbows and sunshine, you need to rethink your choices. If you picked up this book expecting it to be like another book you've read then you need to get to know the author a bit. No author is going to write what you want them to. They will write what they want to write and how they want to write it. So no, this book isn't going to be like anything you've ever read and that is the reason I love it the most.*A few spoilers ahead, but nothing you shouldn't expect though.Oh.. you hate that there are animals sacrificed... more? Do you know anything about the actual theory of BLOOD MAGIC? If you picked up a book called Blood Magic without knowing what Blood Magic actually is and how it's frowned upon(yes, even today)then seriously, shame on you. What's that? Magic doesn't exist? Psh. Do your research. Miss Gratton obviously has. Rituals, spells and potions exist. They may not turn you in a frog or make you be able to summon something from across a room, but they can heal your body, and they can heal and cleanse your mind. There is a darker side to this magic as well and it's called BLOOD MAGIC and only the incredibly brave will dare try it because that my friends is Black Magic and it's incredibly dangerous. ***Do not give a book a bad review just because the topic was too big for you to understand.***
review 2: I had first picked this book up at my local library. I read the cover and thought it would be a good read. Sadly though I did not get to finish the book while I had it from the library (things came up). But since I had really like the characters and storyline so much (from what I had read), I ordered it from the book store I work at the next day. I really like that this book had a different look at magic and how it was used. It wasn’t your average “Oh look I can make fire!” or whatever. This is blood magic and written out in a way that works very well. The history/connection between the two main character’s families was intriguing. The only thing that kind of makes me laugh after finishing it was that I related and liked Nick more than Silla….not sure if anyone else felt that way but he is pretty awesome. His point of view made me laugh more than once. Don’t get me wrong Silla is a good character and I can’t imagine going through what she had to. She’s very strong. This book stood out in the way of the writing technique. The first page alone made me be more interested to see how the rest of the book had been written. I love the diary pages being added in the book and with the different fonts in order for you (the reader) to be able to follow along. The best part of it was the breaking up of the points of view of Nick and Silla. Some other books aren’t very good at doing this but Tessa did a great job at it. Would very much recommend this book! less
