review 1: I wanted to love this book. I really did. I loved Rune in Dragon Bound and Storm’s Heart. He epitomized what an alpha male should be. Physically and mentally strong, compassionate, observant, sexy and loyal. And then there is Carling. While she didn’t have the spunk that Tricks did in Storm’s Heart, there was just something about her that had me wondering what the hell was going on with her because she just seemed so detached from everything. Not necessarily oblivious, just not really interested. So to find out that they would collide promised to be, if not fun, interesting, and it was.I loved the bantering between Rune and Carling and how he got to her to care about living again instead of sitting back and waiting for the disease to take her over. And as th... moreey worked to try to find the cure for the disease I could see and feel the chemistry growing between them, not only physically but intellectually and emotionally. They complemented each other in every way and I was totally rooting for them to get their HEA. And the whole thing with Carling ‘disappearing’ and how that tied in to her disease was really interesting, especially with how Rune could go with her. And then IT happened.****Slightly Spoilerish***The IT in question was the whole Rune/Dragos thing. Now to make it clear, I have no problem with Rune mating with Carling, in fact I’m all for it. I also knew that with them mating Rune would more than likely have to do what Tiago did in Storm’s Heart. My issue was with how it happened. Regardless of how wonky the mating thing makes Wyr, it just sent me into a WTF spin because I never would have expected it to come from Rune. It was just so out of character that I did an actual replay of his actions up to that point and realized just what had been happening. Is Dragos blameless in it all? No, but I can’t blame him at all for his reaction when faced with what was going on. And while this situation did make me lose some interest in Rune and Carling, I do have to give Ms Harrison props for it because I definitely didn’t see that coming and I do love it when an author can drive me to start swearing at their book.
review 2: Lovely reading this was.I didn't think Rune and Carling would be a good match but they totally are.The only thing I didn't like about this book was Dragos and Rune not being friends anymore. I wasn't expecting the animosity between them and I would have thought that Dargos would be more understanding than that.Anyway it was a very nice read and I will definitely read more of this series. less
