review 1: Ah, I loved this book. I found it entirely accidentally online while I was hunting for some cheap fluff to read. And this novel just sneaked up on me, blind-sided me with the same depth of emotion that I found in novels such as "Lost Souls" and "Let the Right One In."I would have given it five stars, but, as much as Levi is the villain, I felt so much pain for him and wanted to see him at the end of the novel. I wanted his legacy to include a more heroic - inspired deed - than simply letting Jared go. Although, I will admit, that may simply be my own prejudices towards vampires stepping in the way.It is not often these days that a vampire novel makes me cry, creates a physical, emotional response in me. As the author has stated, the market is just too over-flowing with bad... more vampire fiction at present. But this novel moved me.Thank you so much for renewing my faith in the existence of vampire literature.
review 2: This starts out ok, and I enjoyed the way the story was being told. But, not too long into it, I had a hard time remembering who the couple was supposed to be and couldn't figure out which direction it was headed. I felt quite bad for Jared who was chosen by Levi for whatever his reasons were. Levi had a lot of potential to be deep and mysterious, and he just fell kind of flat for me. This story begins with Jared and a girl, then there is a hot threesome at the amusement park where Jared, his current boyfriend, Charlie, and Jared's best friend Jordan (had a hard time keeping them straight) have a little fun. This brings the possibility of an actual relationship to light beyond best friends, except that there is the big issue of Levi in the way. Levi shows up to feed on Jared whenever he wants, and though he professes to be whatever Jared wants, it never seems to matter. Jared can't ever seem to break free of Levi. Every time Levi promises to stay away, he breaks that promise. Until the end, when, all of a sudden, he decides that he will, just like that, out of the blue. It was rather abrupt, and I was really hoping for more from this end. less
