review 1: I'm giving this three and a half stars. The story was an interesting concept, but the main male character, Joe, annoyed me for most of the book with his dogged attitude and ridiculous wavering over his choices between the life he knows and the life he can choose to have with the woman he falls in love with. He came across as weak and somewhat pedantic and didn't strike me as someone the female lead character would fall head over heels in love with. Alexandra (the female lead) forgave him so much of his attitude, something I don't think a strong, capable woman would do so easily. Theresa Ragan has written about an interesting time-travel concept, with a strong plan for how to explain the time-travelling - unfortunately her lead character let her ... moredown.
review 2: I love time travel romance and this one was wonderful. It was both fun and entertaining. I loved Joe – poor, stubborn, neat-freak Joe. He found out the hard way that it’s one thing to study medieval history but it’s another thing altogether to live it. And I thought Alexandra was a good match for him. She was just as stubborn, and never gave up the belief that Sir Joe was the hero she was looking for, even if she had to teach him how to be one. I loved their interaction and the way they had to concentrate to not fall in love. And I also really liked the idea of magic stones for time travelling – I’m going to have to keep an eye out for some of them myself! less
