review 1: Great cookbook. Simple, elegant, non-fussy recipes that don't use long lists of ingredients or complicated directions. Great for entertaining, everday family meals, and easy to tweak. These are the recipes you learn to prepare well and turn to often. They become your classics and the backbone of your recipe repertoire. If it wasn't so expensive ($50), I'd add it to my shelf now. Instead I'll keep an eye for a bargain.
review 2: A beautiful cookbook! Thomas Keller, of the French Laundry, Bouchon, and per se, has written a great book based on the home cooking he remembers from his childhood. ... morehere is a wonderful chapter on tapenades, chutneys, confits, pickles, and other condiments, many of which I can't wait to try. The recipes are well written and seem made for the home cook. The illustrations are beautiful. The book also includes recipes for basics like pasta, stocks, and salad dressings. The recipes I'm immediately going to try are garlic confit and brioche. (I love to make breads.) I can't wait to add this cookbook to my collection! I feel like it's one I'll turn to time and again. less
