review 1: I read the first chapter of this book, and it was thrilling. It had just enough confusion and excitement to make me want to read on. But the rest of the book was an absolute waste of time.First off, so many things are happening in Dusty's life that I can't keep them straight. The whole bit with her mother I did not understand, it just added another problem in Dusty's life. Talk about a troubled child? Next, who is stupid enough to walk around town (which is all she does pretty much the whole book) by herself in the middle of winter when there are crazies on the loose? Sure she's stubborn and curious, but after the first FIVE TIMES of her being in danger, you'd think she'd get the hint. And finally, the conversations, which were so awkward and weird and short and just overa... morell horrible. I do not recommend this book!
review 2: I can say with certainty that it was not my favorite book. I agree that at some points in the novel I was really interested, but through most of it, I was really bored and confused. I had so many questions and I thought that in the end they would be answered, but they were not. Not at all. I can understand wanting to end with a little mystery, but what he did was not 'a little mystery'. That was just...ending without ANY answers throughout the entire book. I can't even begin to point out all the questions I have. Also, in the whole book, not much happens. She sees and feels a bright light. Check. She tries to figure out and find a mysterious boy. Check.Weird occurrences happen. Check. She makes a friend. Check.Looses a few friends. Check.Add only a few other things and you've got the whole book. That may sound like a lot in general, but really, in a whole book, it's not much. Also, Bowler keeps doing the same thing over and over again. She gets caught in the snow too many times to count and there are way too many scenes with the un-explained light source shining down on her. All in all, and I'm sorry to the people who loved this book...I didn't like this book and I don't recommend it. :( less
