review 1: Eerie. A completely different take on zombies. On revival dya, the recently dead in Wasaw (Winsconsin) come back to life, and not only are they not brain eating zombies but people can't even tell... (unless they went to the deceased funeral, of course). The city is quarantined and there may be more danger from the living and their secrets than from the undead. Or maybe not? So far I've read vols 1 to 3. Great idea, great setting, great characters. My only complaints would be: the 3 main female characters look to similar which leads to confusion (at least at the beginning), plus maybe too many characters? I get that this is the story of a small town, so there should be many characters, but sometimes I hve trouble keeping trak, in particular when characters are referred to b... morey name and not present. Also I have some trouble making sense of the "revival" rules, only those who revived on the Revival day are immortal? What happens to those who day AFTER revival day? But then the characters don't know either, so provably it's fine if i'm not 100% clear on that.
review 2: This volume includes the first 5 issues of this series and while it hints at a really good series to come it is a little slow to get going. The basic premise is superb and I can't wait to get stuck into even more but this volume focuses on setting up the various characters, their relationships with each other, the feel of the town and the mild sense of panic and disturbing creepiness. Don't get me wrong, the twist this gives to the usual reanimation/zombie story is fantastic and really gets the imagination going and I can't wait to see where Seeley takes this, especially as, even in this volume, he has avoided falling into the immediate trap of mimicing the traditional stories found in this genre (and more importantly it didn't remind me of Walking Dead which I was more than a little concerned about). Basically this is a solid start to what has the potential to be a brilliant series but don't expect outright horror from this volume although there are some awesomely gruesome moments. less

J'espérais plus intriguant. ça manquait d'hameçons pour un premier tome.
