review 1: Why has completing this volume made me extremely depressed? Why do I really really want to cry? I don't know the answers to these questions, but I know that this is probably how I'm going to feel once I finish this series, (or at least what is already out now). Completing a really long series is really horrible, because you get so attached to the characters and in a way you want it to go on forever like Naruto, (but not like Naruto because they have some pretty crappy arcs). So many plot twists!! So much deception!! Gin turns his blade on Aizen, putting a sliver of his sword into Aizen's body and stealing the Hogyoku, but Aizen says that the Hogyoku belongs to him and him only, and delivers a fatal blow to Aizen. We see that Gin really didn't kill Matsumoto but knocked her ... moreout with Haku Fuku. She rushes to Gin's dying body, and we discover that Gin's motive was Rangiku, which is sweet but doesn't necessarily explain why he needed to team up with Aizen. Either way, Gin passes on and Matsumoto is bawling her eyes out, which made me really depressed. I kind of liked Gin, and I wanted to find out more about him. :/There were some flashbacks I didn't really understand, and others that did make sense. And then... YESH! ICHIGO APPEARS LOOKING MORE BAD APPLE THAN EVAH!! (Ha he's a bad apple).I looked at him, and did a double take, then almost said aloud: "Ichigo, what the heck is wrong with your hair?" It's so friggin long!! And he looks so depressed...Keigo and Tatsuke looked almost scared when Ichigo first appeared, as if he's not really Ichigo their friend but another scary enemy. So much for faith in friends.Tatsuke doesn't feel any Spirit energy from Ichigo, and Aizen seems confused as if he truly is Ichigo or not. Gin sees how much stronger Ichigo has gotten, and decides he can die and leave things in his hands; which he does.Ichigo takes Aizen far away, they fight and the Hogyoku realizes Aizen is close to losing, so it gives him a new ability which looks like a Hollow. Ichigo then transforms into Getsuga itself to use the final Getsuga Tensho, which he obtained by willingly taking the blade from Tensa Zangetsu, (or whatever you want to call him). This part made me freeze and start flipping out. This is a reenactment of my reaction:*Looks at panel with Ichigo as Getusga*Me: "...""...""...""WHAT THE FRICK HE KEEPS GETTING LONGER AND LONGER HAIR!!! AND SAGGIER FLATTER HAIR!! AND IT'S NOT EVEN ORANGE ANYMORE!! Ichigo..... What have you done to your beautiful hair......
review 2: It’s hard to review this because this is the end of a very long arc. The title on the cover says a lot. God is Dead. It’s the final battle between Ichigo and Aizen. Gin has some things of his own he wanted to accomplish but it’s best to say no more there. As before, the mangaka has left a lot of interesting character tidbits to the very end. I had no idea Gin and Rangiku had any past relations (though as long as this series is I could have forgotten). For that matter there is some truly humanizing moments for Aizen as well but it still feels too little too late story telling wise.Ichigo has learned from Zangetsu, the final form. His battle with Aizen is how battles should be done. It wasn’t just endless fight scenes. There was some truly interesting stuff in there. I’ll let you read for yourself how it all shook out.If I didn’t know there was more to this series, I would have considered this a good stopping place. Not the one I would have hoped for mind you. But there is more and I’m curious where and how it’s going to move forward. Many of reviews of the volumes in the forties were not very favorable until the two before this. As with any long series you can get bad, or at the least, not very interesting moments. This arc ended on a high note. Now, unlike just a few volumes ago, I DO care if the library gets more. Also, I’ve never thought Ichigo was all that attractive until the long hair he had from all the thousands of hours of suspended time. Woot. One thing though, they made such a point of Ichigo not seeing Aizen’s sword when the battle began a few books ago but it never seemed to really manifest in the story telling. Did I miss it? less
