review 1: I’d like to start off by saying that I’ve enjoyed this book for the most part. But I was put off by the dialogues and general personalities of the main characters. Evie didn’t seem to have any character at all other than the fact that she likes to be alone and that she couldn’t care less if her grandmother dislikes her very existence. Speaking of her grandmother…what grandmother? I keep thinking that she was nothing but a figment of Evie’s imagination. She often talked of her but she didn’t seem to be around. Lucas, the love interest, gets marks off for declaring he loves her in a span of a week or two, give or take. This book is short but there’s a sequel and where the author ended this…uhm…why? If you’ve never liked co-dependent relationships in a... more book, then STAY AWAY. They literally get the worst case of the stomach flu when they’re apart – well, mostly on Evie’s part. Over all, this is another cookie cutter YA paranormal romance, I’m still undecided on whether or not I'm willing to spend the money on the next “volume”.
review 2: I enjoyed this book. It was definatley different than anything else I have read to date, which is a good thing. I loved the authors writing and the pace of the book. It was definatley a fast paced story for me. I found myself absorbed in the plot. I knew it was a shorter book, but was still surprised when I came to the end.The aspect of elves is something that interested me about this book. I haven't read too many stories that elves were a main character in the book (if any at all honestely), and I was excited to finally have a chance to read one. I wasn't disappointed. I really enjoyed T.J. Dell's version of elves, even though we havn't been exposed to them that much in this first volume.I really loved Lucas' character. I felt like he was the most complex out of all of the characters in the book, and I love me some complex. I was slightly confused about the grandmother, because she was mentioned alot, but never really 'showed' up. I was hesitant about the insta love aspect of the book, but I think it will grow on me. (I am a sucker for romance). I think this is a series that will get better and better as it progresses. I will definatley be reading the next volume, and soon!! less
