review 1: I'd say this book would be like taking a slow hayride through the mid-west while under the influence of pot ( a drug of choice for one of the main characters). The carriage wheels hitting a stone here & there along the way on an otherwise dreamy journey. It's full of all the heavy stuff:prayer, self mutilation, religious fervor though the sexual aspect of the novel is pretty tame. The grammar errors did not irritate me as much as it did some of the other readers.I guess I was too immersed in the novel to nitpick & my brain performed an instant auto correct as I went along this ride.
review 2: 4.5 stars, really quite a good story and characters.I read this the first time for the Rainbow Awards and I guess because I had so many books to read I wasn't really caught up
... morein the emotions of this story. I just re-read it and was totally swept away. The preacher's kid taking up with the bad boy, but done well. The country (supposed bumpkin) PK is totally believable and being one myself, I found him totally believable. The new kid, bad ass, with fingernail polish and a trauma story that allows you to believe all his issues, was somehow less believable to me. I did not get his physical strength, nothing was there to support that. His issues and back story was all plausible and terrifying especially with all that we hear on the news today or even know about in our personal life.Their story is very special, the parents and other adults are very well thought out and true to life. When the PK is outed to his mother and she rejects him, it tore me apart. I too had a mom that said horrible hateful things that made our eventual reconciliation a very hard thing to accomplish. The ending is a little too perfect for me, not that I wanted a sad ending, just a few ribbons left dangling. Very definitly a HEA. Possible left open for a sequel? less
