review 1: This murder mystery wasn't overly thrilling. I thought the writer did a decent job developing memorable characters. Larry and Silas left a strong impression. Both boys were dealt bad cards. Their lives, intricately intertwined, prove to be full of adversities. When the truth of their past finally unfolds, you can feel the weight lifted off the characters. The ending isn't grand- it's real life- simple and raw.
review 2: I hated this book, but I have to give it 4 stars because it was extremely well done. I hate southern racist rural poor mean abusive secretive stories. ... morehe rural angry abusiveness is scary. But it was very well done. less

While I enjoyed it, it was a bit anti-climatic for me. The flow just seemed off to me.
