review 1: I found the initial concept wonderful. Beloved pets living on after death in a magical land, who wouldn't want to read about that? About halfway through though, I floundered and it became a struggle to keep interested. I still liked a lot of the concepts, like the whole Observatory situation, and the idea that imagination can be real. In the end, I gave it a three. I liked the overall scope, but I'm not sure I would ever re-read.
review 2: My initial thoughts to this book was that it was cute and captivating. Tone Almhjell did a great job keeping the reader interested and wanting to know more!First I want to mention how beautiful the cover is. I love how they put the two main characters on the cover, Lin and Rufus. I, also, love the dark blue cover because it
... more adds some mystery and makes me think of winter and snow, an important aspect of the plot. The world, Sylver, Tone Almhjell created was fantastic and well thought of. I enjoyed how all the Petlings were human sized and could talk. I laughed when Ursa Minor, the bear, was introduced. It was funny to think of a bear trying to paint teacups and attempting other meticulous tasks. I also enjoyed Pomeroy and his waffles. It was hilarious thinking of animals sitting down eating all kinds of waffles made by a hamster. What made this book unique was the Petlings and the Winterfyrst story. I enjoyed how Sylver was a community where every Petling had their place as either a doctor, a seamstress, a cook, an inventor, etc. I only had two main issues with this book. First, it seemed as if every other line had a simile or metaphor, which got a bit annoying. Secondly, not all my questions were answered at the end. Although the main questions were explained, a few minor ones were left unanswered. I did enjoy reading The Twistrose Key. It is wonderful for all ages. less

I enjoyed the story as a reader. As bookseller, I *love* that it is safe to recommend from 8 to 80.
