review 1: I enjoy this series so much. There is beauty in Eva, the creatures she meets along the way, the spiritual exploration, the heroism, the loss and bravery of others, the art, and in the words. Eva might be a preteen but she is wiser than most we meet in New Attica. Eva so badly wants a home and finally finds other humans in the city and even a long lost family member she had no idea about, but New Attica is not sitting well with Eva. Everyone seems to be alike, there are no aliens which makes Eva worried for Rovee, and her gut keeps telling her she isn't like the folks in New Attica. Eva soon learns that just because you are from the same clan, does not make them your family. With a turn of events, Eva is now out saving others from her adventures before from the ruler of New... more Attica.
review 2: Honestly, I have mixed feelings about this book. I love the setting and scale. It's a great science fiction book in that way. The planet the book takes place on, the different types of aliens, the human city, it's all very inventive and great fun to read. I do have a bit of a problem with the main character in this book, Eva Nine. Sure, she is a heroine you can root for, but I grew tired of the fact that she seems to be perfect. She knows everything, she can do everything, she is wise beyond her years, she sees problems and solutions nobody else sees... Honestly, it's a bit boring, just as Eva herself is a bit boring. She is wandering around a fantastic planet, but she never stops to enjoy the view. This book is fun, but Eva herself isn't. She comes across as very one dimensional to me and that's a real shame. I wanted to give this book 3 and a half stars, but I'll edge it up to four stars for the real sense of wonder you get reading this book. I look forward to reading book three, but I hope Eva is a little less perfect and little more in that final chapter. less

Quick fun read. I love how Eva 9 is developing and Rovie is her mentor.
