Star Wars: The Clone Wars Junior Novel
review 1: I have been a Star Wars fan since I was 11 and I'm 19 (almost 20 now) and my obsession has never stopped. I LOVED the Clone Wars movie. I loved this book too. This book is a junior novelisation of the movie of the same name that served as a pilot to the television series. So here's a brief:A few months have passed since the opening battle of the Clone Wars. Obi-Wan Kenobi and his former padawan and best friend Anakin Skywalker (aka Darth Vader) have been stationed on the planet of Christophsis. Obi-Wan jokes with Anakin that he would be getting a new Padawan soon which Anakin doesn't view as funny. A ship arrives, dropping off supplies and a young Togruta in the shape of 14 year old Ahsoka Tano who has been assigned to Anakin as a Padawan NOT Obi-Wan. Anakin, forever suspi... morecious of Obi-Wan, realises that Ahsoka wasn't really assigned to Obi-Wan.Anakin and Ahsoka are assigned to rescue the infant son of Jabba the Hutt much to Anakin's initial protests. Upon finding the young Huttlet, Count Dooku and Jabba's uncle, Ziro pilot to kill the Huttlet and frame Anakin and Ahsoka for the crime. As time goes on, Anakin and Ahsoka continuously clash and Anakin slowly but surely opens up to Ahsoka about his hatred for Hutts and his home planet of Tatooine but doesn't reveal the reason why. Over time, Ahsoka comes to respect Anakin for what he stands for and comes to consider him as a big brother. She also becomes close to Rex, Anakin's clone commander who come to think of the teenager as little version of Anakin.Upon discovering from Dooku that Anakin and Ahsoka have his son, Jabba orders that the pair be killed not knowing that it is really Dooku wants his son dead and that Anakin and Ahsoka have rescued the infant and are returning him home.Upon finding this out, Senator Padmé Amidala, who just so happens to be Anakin's secret wife jumps into action and discovers Ziro's involvement in Dooku's plan and has Ziro arrested hence clearing her secret husband and his padawan of any charges. What I found interesting about this book was that the dialogue was similar to that of the film and plays on been very close to the film. I did give this book 3 stars but thinking back on it, I've decided to give it 4 stars out of 5.
review 2: I read this because my sweet nine year old read it, loved it, and begged me to read it too. He would give it five stars if he could. We saw the movie before the book, and I was totally unimpressed. An hour and a half of violence with token story line and character development. Yay. And the portrayal of Jabba the Hut's uncle (think Jabba as a tatooed, lisping, New Orleans inhabitant....some Mardi Gras vibe...) was seriously freaky to me for some reason.Compared to the movie, the book was a breath of fresh air. Still made of more action than good old story line, but not so bad. Since the battle scenes weren't so fleshed out as in the movie, there was a higher ratio of story to violence. But, my boy LOVED it, and I enjoyed knowing he wanted to share it with me. Read it with your boys. less
